Japanese Christmas traditions

Japanese Christmas
This is the second illustration of a serie of my life in Japan.

Christmas in Japan is different from the most of the countries that celebrate this holiday.

Buddhist are the majority in Japan, there are few Christians in the country so we don't see images of Jesus or nativity scene, only the festives trees, some gifts and Christmas products in the shopping mall.

There are some different and peculiar traditions in Japan like eating a strawberry cake and fried chicken of KFC, yes KFC! Kentucky Fried Chicken on Christmas has been sold as a traditional food of 25th December since 1970s because of a huge marketing campaing. For that reason KFC stores are so crowded and it's so hard to buy some fried chicken on this day, KFC created a system to preorder. Unfortunately my husband and I didn’t order earlier and we won’t eat KFC this year.

Other curious tradition is that Christmas are an event for couples, so many restaurants are booked to coulples.

What about Christmas in your country? What do you like to do and eat in this day?

All the illustration was created on Procreate. My intention was to show how funny is people trying so hard to buy these traditional products.

I wish you a beautiful Christmas day ! Have a great day!

Hope that you like it!
